Where did it begin? When did we stop seeing ourselves as beautiful? When did we become so amazingly talented at avoiding our reflection in a mirror?
I was cleaning the other day and saw myself in the mirror (no makeup and hair a mess) and my first thought was “I like myself”. It shocked me so much, I had to take a picture and instantly text my trainer and my husband something along the lines of “I saw myself in the mirror and I liked myself" Michael truly knows what a breakthrough that is.
It has nothing to do with a number on the scale because I am 20 lbs heavier than my “comfortable” weight. It doesn't have anything to do with my muscles or lack thereof. It doesn't have to do with the way my hair was fixed or my makeup looking just right. It has to do with the way I am finally seeing myself through the eyes of my Creator. He doesn't care if I am in perfect shape or any of the other things. He just loves having a sweet relationship with me. The more time I spend in my chair listening to His voice, the quieter the voice in my head gets. He adores me. He wants me to see just a little glimpse of how He sees me as fearfully and wonderfully made. He adores you too…JUST THE WAY YOU ARE!
According to statistics, the beauty & personal care market worldwide is projected to generate a revenue of 625.70 BILLION US DOLLARS in 2023. The market is expected to grow at an annual rate of 3.32%. We do everything in our power to make our physical bodies look the best they can. We want to cover the scars. We want to hide the lines of the pain. We want to mask the worry. We hide what we don’t want the outside world to see. But the things that remain unseen and hidden have the power to eat us up until we are dead decaying bones on the inside and there’s not enough Botox on this planet to make the outside beautiful when the inside is rotting away!
The best beauty treatment in this world is to reflect the radiance of Christ. If I want a beautiful countenance reflecting back in the mirror that I actually enjoy gazing upon, I must keep my face turned toward Jesus. This is the best, 100% absolutely free, beauty treatment.
I sought the Lord, and he answered me;
He delivered me from all my fears.
Those who look to him are radiant;
their faces are never covered with shame.
Psalm 34:4-5
